NASA's Satellite Site
This is the prime place to go for images from the GMS-5 or Asian geostationary satellite.
Though a few of the images are quite large (3-6.5MB), many have been gridded into smaller
sectionals. The tables below contain brief descriptions of the area covered. Non-gridded
images are identified. Most of the links are to an ftp site with a large listing of
available images. In all cases, the latest image is at te bottom of the listing.
NASA ftp "Mirror
Site" I found this link on a sci.geo.meteorology newsgroup posting. It's a
mirror site for those great NASA images (ftp://explorer.arc.nasa.gov). Scott, who runs the
explorer server out of the University of Hawaii put up this mirror site because the
explorer server has had lots of problems lately.
University of
Wisconsin A good site with some good Pacific images. Some images even have upper-level
winds overlaid.
Russian
Satellite Site Great site for Russian satellite images. They're not always up to the
minute in terms of realtime data, but a 3-6 hour old satellite of Russia is better than
nothing. The images are nicely colored and have city names on them.
NPMOC West / JTWC The Naval
Pacific Meteorology and Oceanography Center / Joint Typhoon Warning Center is located in
Guam. The JTWC is a good source of info for the area extending from the Arabian Sea east
to Guam. One of the few sites with current satellite imagery of the Indian Ocean.
